Beginning Teacher Instructional Rounds Workshop - Day 3 of 3
First and second-year teachers are invited to register for this exciting opportunity!

Be a part of this cohort of new teachers, engaging in instructional rounds (the shared practice of observing, discussing and analyzing learning and teaching)! Participants will be able to observe multiple teachers and classrooms each day of the workshop series, followed by reflection and planning for implementation. The rounds and debriefing sessions will be led by an experienced teacher/mentor/instructional coach.

Rounds will focus on instructional elements typically identified as areas of need with beginning teachers: classroom management, routines and procedures, and student engagement. These topics have been identified through conversations and surveys with our region's administrators and beginning teachers, as well as experience from previous years' beginning teacher workshops. Participants will also have the opportunity to observe instructional strategies of personal interest.

Participating teachers will be expected to implement learned strategies in the time between each session, sharing their trials and successes with their workshop colleagues. Additionally, participating teachers and their students will complete pre and post-surveys regarding instructional elements related to classroom management, routines and procedures, and student engagement.

Special Note:
First-year teachers will receive mileage reimbursement for their attendance at the workshop courtesy of the NESC Beginning Teacher Network Grant through ESPB and the ND Teacher Support System.

NESC Student Event: EJ Carion

Locations: Lake Region State College, Devils Lake (10:30 - 11:30 a.m. ) & Cankdeska Cikana Community College, Fort Totten (1 -2 p.m.)

Presentation Description:
Success comes down to putting in the work. The challenge is that most students lack the necessary motivation to succeed. That's why EJ uses his funny and engaging personal story to illustrate how those who take action do, in fact, succeed. This presentation will help students connect the dots between their hard work now and their future success.

About EJ:
EJ Carrion was an average kid in high school. When he took a standardized test his Junior year to see if he was college bound, his 8th grade brother earned a higher score than him on the exact same test. However with average grades and test scores, EJ was still able to receive the prestigious Bill Gates Millennium Scholarship, which allowed him to graduate college debt free. EJ went from average high school student to successful entrepreneur. His company Student Success Agency works with high schools to transform how students get advised for life after high school. He was listed on Forbes 30 Under 30 List and invited by the White House and the Department of Education to present his innovative work in education. EJ Carrion is the #1 Amazon Best Selling author of "Accelerate Your Success: How to Create a Future and Stand Out When College is Not Enough," an in-demand motivational speaker, and was awarded the Impact Award for his work in education.

He has visited hundreds of schools across the country and around the world to address parents, educators, and their students. His ultimate goal is to help teenagers own their future. When EJ talks to students about college success, they know they're listening to someone who they can relate to. EJ stays in touch with students via Snapchat reaching thousands of views on each of his snaps daily.
