    North Dakota Superintendent of Public Instruction, Kirsten Baesler, and Department of Human Services’ Behavioral Health Executive Policy Director, Pamela Sagness, are working with Regional Education Associations to coordinate conversations with local school leaders regarding education and behavioral health in the state. 

     

    There has been an increasing need for behavioral health services and supports in North Dakota. The impact on students, families, schools, and communities is significant and deserves a serious and sustainable solution. During the 2019 legislative session all branches of government worked together to support a comprehensive behavioral health strategy. Many of the policy or program changes will have direct impact on schools. These meetings provide an opportunity to learn more about the efforts underway in the state and also provide feedback or ask questions so these strategies can be implemented collaboratively to best serve students and families.

    Statewide Class of 2020 Viewing Information

    Statewide Class of 2020 Viewing Information 

    The North Dakota Department of Public Instruction has partnered with the Governor’s Office, Forum Communications and Microsoft to produce a virtual Celebration for the North Dakota Class of 2020. This statewide celebration will honor graduates from every high school in North Dakota with a slideshow. Microsoft Teams will enable viewers to listen to guest speakers, including Governor Burgum, Carson Wentz, Josh Duhamel, and a performance by Tigerlily.

     

    The North Dakota Class of 2020 Celebration can be viewed on May 30 at 2 p.m. Central/1 p.m. Mountain time by tuning in to your local ABC station (WDAY, WDAZ, KBMY and KMCY) or by visiting Inforum.com, GrandForksHerald.com, JamestownSun.com, TheDickinsonPress.com or WestFargoPioneer.com. The livestreams will be featured at the top of each news site's homepage and will not require registration or subscription to watch. Please pass this information on to your students and families.     NESC CHAMPS - One Day Workshop - June 2, 2020

    This one-day workshop will focus on setting and maintaining classroom expectations to manage student behavior through CHAMPS protocols.  CHAMPS is a system of proactive and positive protocols created to reduce the amount of behaviors in the classroom, maximizing classroom time.  The workshop will get you thinking about how you approach behaviors in your classroom and what you can do to prevent behaviors before they happen. 

    ***This workshop can also be taken as a one day offering on June 2, depending on your interest and the extent with which you want to explore and implement CHAMPS in your classroom. Learning from day one will scaffold into learning on day two.

    August 6, 2020 is an optional and recommended, second day.
