Prioritized Instructional Planning: Empowering Students in a Standards-Based Learning Environment
Register Here

Guest Facilitator and Presenter: Jan K. Hoegh, Author & Associate - Marzano Resources | Solution Tree

During March of 2021, a webinar series was made available to North Dakota educators on how to provide a high-quality learning environment based on standards. The teacher perspective of standards-based learning was presented across all five learning opportunities. This sixth session focuses on the student perspective. Student agency is receiving more attention than ever before, simply because achievement is greater when students are fully invested in their own learning. You are invited to join Jan K. Hoegh from Marzano Resources as she addresses how to optimize student involvement for ensuring high levels of academic performance.

Outcomes of this webinar include:

•    Discover the impact on students when clarity exists in the classroom.

•    Explore methods for ensuring that students engage at a high level in their own learning.

Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) Grant Program 2022 Summer Symposium

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Elementary andSecondary Education (OESE) is pleased to announce the Nita M. Lowey 21stCentury Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) Grant Program 2022 SummerSymposium. This event, hosted by OESE’s Office of School Support andAccountability, will convene virtually on July 19-21, 2022. We hope you andyour grantees will be able to join us this summer.

The Summer Symposium features successful strategies thatState educational agencies (SEAs) and their grantees can use to implement andmanage all components of a 21st CCLC program. Attendees will hear fromnationally recognized speakers during plenary sessions and work closely witheducation experts and peers during interactive workshops. SEAs and granteeswill gain valuable perspectives on afterschool issues and receive importantupdates about the 21st CCLC program.

This year’s theme is “Strong You, Strong Me, StrongCommunity.” Ideas for building on individual and collective strengths arewoven throughout each of the following eight symposium strands:

 -Championing Equity and Justice

Achieving equity and justice goes beyondoffering all students the same choices. Each student needs to feel empowered totake advantage of the choices they have. This strand will help you tailor yourapproach so that all students in your program receive culturally responsivesupport and resources that meet their individual needs — and build on theirstrengths.

  • College and Career Reimagined

Your students may dream of being successfulperformance artists, space travelers, or farmers who find sustainable ways tofeed the world. Nurture those dreams by introducing real-world experiences andpathways that enhance school-day learning, support continued education, andhelp students realize success. Imagine new possibilities with the sessions inthis strand.

  • Fast Track to Learning: Engaging the Whole Child

Research and experience tell us thatstudents respond well to strategies that engage their passions and connect themto their communities. Sessions in this strand demonstrate approaches toaccomplishing this in out-of-school time programs.

  • Great Leaders Track: Management, Leadership, and Sustainability

Leaders become great, in part, by learningto effectively manage and sustain their organizations. They also valueprofessional growth and welcome diverse experiences and ideas. Sessions in thisstrand will help you master management skills and build habits of mind thatcreate strong mentors and role models for colleagues and students alike.

  • Innovative Community and Family Connections

When educational programs, communityorganizations, and public agencies operate in silos, they can missopportunities to support the students and families they serve. This strandintroduces ways to leverage the strengths of partners and families to build astrong network that helps ensure critical connections are created andsustained.

  • Student Stories: Youth Discuss Program Impacts

It feels fantastic when students say, “Thiswas the best activity/summer/field trip ever!” This strand features studentssharing their experiences. Their stories can remind you of your program’simpact and how important it is to listen to student voice and choice as youdesign activities.

  • Taking Charge of Health: Strategies to Promote Wellness

Many factors contribute to healthy mental, physical, and social behaviors; everyone needs support to achieve balance. Thisstrand will provide practical knowledge and proven strategies to supportwellness for students and staff.

  • Virtual Teaching and Learning: Strategies That Work

Just as the higher education and businessworlds have done, the K-12 education world now embraces virtual technologies toshare information and deliver learning opportunities. Sessions in this strandwill help program leaders and staff members master virtual tools and strategiesthat welcome, engage, and support all students so your program can operate inhybrid, virtual, and in-person settings.
